Sweden, Norway and Denmark contributed $420 million for US weapons in Ukraine

Sweden, Norway and Denmark will jointly contribute 5 billion Norwegian kroner (about 420 million euros) to a NATO initiative to supply Ukraine with US weapons, the Norwegian government announced.

The package includes Patriot air defense systems, other air equipment and anti-tank ammunition. Sweden will provide 240 million euros of this amount.

“The continued supply of American defense equipment — which Europe does not produce in sufficient quantities — is crucial for Ukraine’s defense capability,” Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister, Ebba Busch, declared at a press conference.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte thanked Sweden, Norway and Denmark for their rapid commitment to financing this support package for Ukraine.

NATO has announced that it will coordinate an initiative called the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which is funded by European NATO member states and Canada. The package will be divided into tranches worth $500 million each.

On Monday, the Netherlands became the first country to announce its participation in the initiative, pledging a contribution of 500 million euros.
