A municipality in Italy with Artificial Intelligence councilors

Italy is also planning to include AI officials in its administration, but at local levels. The first of its kind is called Eva Statiella and at the end of June she will be appointed as the first AI councillor in the municipality of Acqui Terme in the northern Piedmont Region. Quoted by the Italian daily Corriere Della Sera, the mayor Danilo Rapeti said that the project is based on Albania’s virtual minister, “Diella”, which he said is the first case in the world.

In this experimental phase, the “Italian virtual official” will officially hold delegations on artificial intelligence and the digital transition. The virtual advisor will have a place in the cabinet and will be able to speak and express opinions.

The project aims to expand further by creating an “avatar mayor” to respond to citizens on social media, as well as by transferring repetitive tasks of civil status and urban planning under the management of artificial intelligence. Local authorities guarantee that there will be no staff cuts. The main goal is to free human employees from routine bureaucracy, having more time for training and to provide citizens with a more humane service.
