EU aims to invest 200 billion euros in artificial intelligence

European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen said they intend to launch a 200 billion euro investment in the field of artificial intelligence in Europe.

Von der Leyen spoke at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit being held in Paris. She said they want to make Europe one of the leading continents in the field of artificial intelligence and that they will accelerate their work in this field.

Von der Leyen recalled that some of the world’s fastest public supercomputers are located in Europe. She emphasized that they will also make these systems available for artificial intelligence work by companies and researchers.

The EC President emphasized that the artificial intelligence factories they have created will take them to another level with artificial intelligence giga-factories.

“These will be able to train models with very big data and information processing infrastructure,” Von der Leyen added.

After noting that the field of artificial intelligence in Europe needs significant funding from both the public and private sectors, Von der Leyen said she welcomes the artificial intelligence initiative, for which the private sector has pledged 150 billion euros.

According to her, the EU will provide an additional 50 billion euros in resources in the field of artificial intelligence with the “InvestAI” initiative. “We aim to mobilize a total of 200 billion euros for investment in artificial intelligence in Europe,” Von der Leyen said.

In the EC statement on the topic, it was noted that a new European fund of 20 billion euros will be created for artificial intelligence giga-factories.

The EU has recently tried to catch up with its rivals like the US and China by making new investments in the field of artificial intelligence.
