The failure of the “Kurti 3” government in the focus of world media

International media have widely reported on the failure of Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, to secure parliamentary support for the formation of a new government, highlighting that the country is facing another political crisis that could lead to early elections. The American media outlet Bloomberg has reported on the tense political situation in Kosovo, emphasizing that the country is heading towards early elections after incumbent Prime Minister Albin Kurti failed to secure enough votes to form a new government.

According to the American media outlet, MPs gathered in the final hours of the constitutional deadline to form a new cabinet, but Kurti failed to obtain the Assembly’s approval for his ministerial composition.

Bloomberg writes that Kurti had called on MPs to vote in the interest of the state and citizens, warning that the lack of a functional government could lead to a budget blockage and delays in public salaries, pensions, child benefits and medical supplies. He also noted that dozens of state agencies continue to operate without oversight due to the political vacuum.

Meanwhile, Turkish media outlet TRT World reported that Kurti failed to secure the necessary votes in the Assembly, as his Vetevendosje Movement (VV) party secured only 56 votes, five short of the required majority of 61 MPs. The failure has deepened political uncertainty in Europe’s newest country, the Turkish media outlet writes.

TRT World points out that Kosovo’s president must now nominate another candidate for a second round of voting, while it remains unclear whether Kurti can run again or whether an opposition representative will be nominated. If the second round also fails to produce the necessary majority, the country could be forced to go to new elections.
