The White House is pushing ahead with one of President Donald Trump’s ambitious projects to build a giant triumphal arch in Washington, D.C., to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence. The White House has announced plans to build a triumphal arch in Washington, D.C. to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence from Great Britain.
Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt told reporters that President Donald Trump and the Interior Department will formally present the project to a review board.

If approved, the arch would be 76 feet tall from its base to a torch held atop a figure resembling Lady Liberty. The figure would be flanked by two eagles and guarded at the base by four gold-plated lions.
The phrases “One Nation Under God” and “Liberty and Justice for All” will be written in gold letters on both sides of the monument. The project is currently the subject of a lawsuit, after a group of veterans and a historian filed a lawsuit to block construction, arguing that the arch would ruin the view between the Lincoln Memorial and the Cemetery of the Dead. The Arc de Triomphe is one of the projects that Trump is developing to leave a permanent mark on Washington.
