Earlier this month, Trump threatened a 50 percent tariff on all European products and accused the 27-member bloc of being specifically formed to take advantage of the United States.
Trump also said that the Union had been a very difficult interlocutor and that negotiations with it were reaching a dead end.
Reacting to the latest news, President Von der Leyen stated that the EU and the United States share together the closest and most functional trading relationship in the world.
“Europe is ready to move forward with speed and determination. To reach a good agreement, we need time until July 9,” Von der Leyen said in a post on the “X” network.
Last week, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič, responded to the US president’s threat that the Union is committed to a solution that “works for both sides and is based on respect and not threats.”
