Vučić: If we recognized Kosovo, we would be the first to join the EU

We would be ahead of all candidates if we recognized Kosovo and imposed sanctions on Russia, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in a speech from Brussels, where he is participating in the EU Enlargement Summit, organized by “Euronews”.

“Tomorrow we can impose sanctions on the Russian Federation. Tomorrow. Literally. Tomorrow we can say that we will recognize Kosovo. And here we are in the European Union. Just tell me, do you want this to be politics? I don’t think we should recognize an independent Kosovo. I don’t think we should have imposed sanctions. Tell me, do you think we should? I don’t want to, but that’s okay, you decide, do it within a year. And here you are in the European Union. It’s pure geopolitics.”

“And if you think we would be faster, it would be much easier to recognize the independence” of Kosovo “or I don’t know what, to give up on our people in Kosovo.”

“Some others, when they come to power, let them change that policy, then we will progress very quickly,” Vučić said in this interview.
