This vehicle from the well-known British brand JCB, world-famous for its heavy machinery, has set a world speed record for vehicles that use hydrogen as fuel, 653.9 km/h. It is a “Hydromax” type vehicle created by this company that tests improvements to motor vehicles. The record was set by pilot and driver Andy Green on the Bonneville Salt Track in Utah, USA.
The 10-meter-long vehicle is powered by two hydrogen internal combustion engines that reach 1,600 horsepower.
This success follows a £100m investment by JCB in hydrogen technology, as an environmentally friendly solution that emits no harmful gases but only water vapour. It is seen as a more suitable alternative to batteries for heavy machinery that requires high power and fast supply. Green simultaneously holds the absolute speed records for both hydrogen and diesel with over 1227 km per hour set in 1997, cementing his status as the fastest driver in history.
