Samsung Galaxy XR, the new rival of Apple Vision Pro

Samsung has released the Galaxy XR, its first mixed reality headset, which competes directly with the Apple Vision Pro. The device is now on sale for $1,799, much cheaper than its rival from Apple. In appearance, the Galaxy XR is very similar to the Vision Pro.

The main difference is in the materials: Samsung has chosen lighter plastic, making the device more comfortable to use. Unlike the Vision Pro, the Galaxy XR allows some light to penetrate, not completely isolating the user from the surrounding environment. The headset has two micro-OLED screens of good quality, but the text is not as sharp as on Apple’s device.

It runs on the new Android XR operating system, developed in collaboration with Google, and includes Gemini integration. With the help of cameras, Gemini can analyze where the user is looking and provide feedback about objects in the view.

The Galaxy XR retails for $1,799.99, with 24-month payment options, and first-time buyers will receive a free “Explorer Pack,” valued at over $1,140. The bundle includes 12 months of access to Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass, Adobe Project Pulsar, Calm Premium, and a subscription to NBA League Pass. Samsung is also offering the Galaxy XR Travel Case and Galaxy XR Controller, each priced at $250. This release marks Samsung’s strong entry into the mixed reality race – a battle that is shaping the future of technology.
