Marta Kos: My vision is that one day the entire Western Balkans will be part of our Europe

“Today we are here to work for better connections for the people of tomorrow,” said European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos upon her arrival at the International Ministerial Conference on Corridor 8 in Sofia.

“Bulgaria is the gateway to Europe for the Black Sea Region, as well as for Turkey, while the Western Balkans play a very important role in connectivity,” Kos said. She noted that over 130 projects are being implemented in the Region, including the construction of new roads and railways and the improvement of border crossings.

“But my vision as Commissioner for Enlargement goes much further. My vision is that one day the entire Western Balkans will be part of our Europe,” said the European Commissioner.

In her words, then the border crossings and transport links that are talked about today will no longer have the same meaning, “because we will be one Europe.”

“A Europe that works together – this is the vision we are working towards in Brussels, here in Sofia, in the Western Balkans and, of course, in the member states,” Kos added.
