AI is wreaking havoc, why you should delete your voice from social media

In addition to the benefits it has brought, Artificial Intelligence has also become an effective tool for online fraudsters or even worse, criminals. In the United States, voice fraud has become a very disturbing phenomenon. Imagine answering the phone one day and hearing a voice that is consistent with that of a family member and telling you that you have been robbed. And in fact, this is what happened in America. According to the US Federal Trade Commission, during 2024, Americans were robbed of a full 12.5 billion dollars by these fraudsters.

How does it work? AI programs don’t need more than a few seconds to record your voice and store it, to be used later for any purpose. Your voice or that of a relative falls into the hands of scammers quite easily. It takes 10 seconds of a video that you may have posted on social networks. Even the options offered by ChatGPT or Microsoft VALL-E can be a space where your voice is misused. Scams are nothing new, but technology has made their methods more sophisticated and convincing. That’s why experts suggest keeping your accounts on social platforms private. Keep only people you know and trust, it’s best to remove audio recordings from there.

2-Step Verification is also advisable, because only in this way is the possibility of your accounts being attacked almost 100% limited. If you enter your data, avoid voice. You can enter your fingerprints. Since today it has become very easy to find someone’s data, from family members, work they do or other information, it is good to limit this. Google has a new tool called “Results About You” where you can see if personal information appears in search results and delete it. Try to do it from time to time!
