Lini in Albania is the oldest stilt-dwelling site in Europe with 2 years of habitation from 8 to 6 BC and the largest in the Balkans. The Albanian-Swiss archaeological expedition has returned to the prehistoric settlement of Lini. After several years of research, the result of this season has confirmed that the stilt-dwelling settlement extends over an area of more than 6 hectares and is the largest in the Balkans.
Previous estimates placed the site at an area of 3 to 6 hectares, while new research methods have expanded the map of the site.
According to archaeologists, this is a part of the site that has been discovered that promises a lot in the future. According to them, the expedition will continue for at least the next 4 years. The Lin site is considered particularly important due to the extraordinary preservation of organic materials. Part of the settlement is located on land, below the groundwater level, while the rest lies under the waters of the lake.
