Escalating Iran-Israel conflict pushes oil prices up again

Crude oil prices rose as Israel launched airstrikes targeting central and western Iran in response to missile fire.

Iranian state television reported the sound of explosions heard in Isfahan, Tabriz and Tehran.

US and Iranian negotiators reached a preliminary agreement last week to extend the ceasefire, but the deal has not been finalized and the latest attacks further strain efforts to end the conflict.

The price of Brent crude, the international benchmark, rose $3.50 to $96.59 a barrel.

The price of US crude oil rose by $3.48 to $94.02 per barrel at the time of writing.

Iran launched several missile attacks on Israel, triggering air raid sirens across the region and sending civilians to shelters, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The military said the Israeli Air Force (IAF) was actively working to intercept threats and strike targets when necessary.
