60 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the presidency

A poll recently published by the American media ABC News and The Washington Post, in collaboration with Ipsos, shows that 60% of American citizens do not approve of the way Donald Trump is governing in his second term, marking a record level of dissatisfaction since the beginning of this term in February 2025. The poll was conducted between February 12 and 17 and included responses from 2,589 American adults.

The greatest dissatisfaction is related to economic and political issues. According to respondents, Trump’s inflation policies are inappropriate for 65% of Americans, while 64% disapprove of the way he has handled the issue of customs and trade tariffs. International relations and foreign diplomacy also receive strong criticism, with a disapproval rating of 62%, while the management of immigration issues is disapproved by 58% of respondents. Compared to last October, the disapproval rating has increased slightly from 59% to 60%, while the approval rating has fallen from 45% to 39%. A majority of Americans (64%) also believe that the president is “disconnected from the main concerns of the country.”

However, even Democrats seem to lack the trust of American citizens. According to the poll, only 31% of respondents believe that Democrats in Congress can better solve the main problems of the United States, while 33% see Trump as the best alternative. A third of Americans choose the option “neither party.”

There is a clear divide within the Republican ranks. 54% of conservative supporters declare themselves supporters of the “MAGA” movement, while 42% oppose it. In this latter group, the majority disapprove of the way Trump has handled issues of inflation, customs and international relations. A significant portion of Americans (54%) also do not support the use of armed forces to force change in other countries, a policy supported by only 20% of the population. Polls show that neither US President Trump nor the ruling Democrats have the public’s trust.
