The constitution of the Assembly fails again

The 36th attempt to constitute the Kosovo Assembly has also failed. For the 27th time in a row, the session has failed at the same point, which is the formation of the committee for secret balloting to elect the speaker of parliament. This committee has failed to be formed due to a lack of votes. On Monday, there were 99 deputies in the hall, 53 deputies voted for the formation of the committee, one against and there was no abstention. Again, representatives of the two political camps have blamed each other for the failure. The constitutive session began on April 15 and since then the deputies have met every 48 hours in an attempt to conclude the constitution of the legislative body. The next session will be held on Wednesday at 11:00.

Murati accuses the opposition of a blockade: Even bigger gaps have been overcome in the past

Vetëvendosje Movement MP Hekuran Murarti said that in the past, political parties have overcome even larger gaps.

He said that by not participating in the vote, MPs from parties that were in opposition in the previous legislature are violating the Constitution and the decision of the Constitutional Court, which according to him states that MPs are obliged to participate in the vote.

“As unbelievable as it may seem, there have been over 30 times when opposition MPs have come to the hall and refused to fulfill their constitutional obligation to vote, to participate in the vote,” Murati said, following the failure to constitute the Assembly.

He has accused the opposition of a systematic blocking approach when it comes to the ratification of international agreements.

“It is the agreement with the World Bank that has been awaiting approval since May of last year, this proves that it is not just a matter of a specific name as the opposition claims, but rather a systematic blockade, dating back to the previous legislature when they refused to ratify international agreements,” Murati said.

Bajrami: If we had an Assembly, we would discuss KEK and the energy mafia

Democratic League of Kosovo MP, Hykmete Bajrami, said that if there were a functional Assembly, the situation in the energy sector would need to be discussed.

“If we had the Assembly constituted today urgently, we would have to talk about the situation in the Kosovo Energy Corporation and the energy mafia in general. Today you have seen what the KEK chimneys are leaking, we are in an extremely serious situation,” Bajrami said, after the failure to constitute the Assembly.

According to her, 1300 businesses are in chaos.

“There has been a doubling of electricity bills, we have 1300 businesses that are in chaos regarding supply, that are refusing to sign contracts with the last supplier, and that do not know what will happen after 60 days when the supply deadline for KEK, as the last supplier, expires,” Bajrami emphasized.

PDK will ask the Foundation to suspend the decision to enter the free electricity market for businesses

PDK MP Abelard Tahiri has announced that on Tuesday his party will address the Basic Court in Pristina with a request to suspend the decision of the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) on the entry into the open energy market of businesses with over 50 employees or with over 10 million euros in annual turnover.

“Tomorrow we will proceed in the Basic Court of Pristina so that this decision is suspended and that these companies are supplied with electricity as they did before the open market,” said Tahiri, after the failure of the Assembly’s constitution on Monday.

He blamed the Vetëvendosje Movement as the winning party for the deadlock in the Assembly.
