A “small G-class” is being prepared, the price does not match the name

Mercedes is developing a smaller, fully electric version of the G-Class, known as the “Little G,” which is scheduled to hit the market in 2027.
The goal is to capture the growing market for rugged electric SUVs, such as the Land Rover Defender Sport. Although it’s the “little brother” of the legendary G-Class, this model will not be compromised in any way. It will be built on the new MB.EA platform, with a unibody structure, an 800V electric system, and a range of over 700 kilometers per WLTP cycle.

Modeled after the original G-Class, it will retain its boxy design, spare wheel on the tailgate, and retro turn signals.

However, it will incorporate more aerodynamic solutions, with lower air resistance than the current G580 EQ model. Inside, it will offer five seats, a digital instrument cluster, and a cabin inspired by the new CLA model. It will be powered by new eATS 2.0 electric motors, and in the more powerful versions, it is expected to produce up to 482 horsepower.

Even though it carries a “small g,” the price won’t be small – it is expected to start at around €81,000, which is still far below the €210,000 price tag of the current EQG.
