“Artificial eye” for robots, new technology for autonomous vehicles

New eyes for robots and autonomous vehicles. A research team has created an artificial vision system that is able to record, process and direct movement faster and more efficiently than the human eye and also 4 times more than currently operating systems.

The created system has imitated what the human eye and vision do and, as a result, identifies thanks to changes in light the areas where movement occurs, saving computing power and energy for objects that are prohibited and of no interest for actions.

During the tests, the new technology has proven to be very accurate, faster in recording action and even much faster than human vision. Further verifications will be needed to then reach the implementation phase in technologies, mainly those for driving autonomous vehicles, but also humanoid robots. The study is published in the scientific journal Nature Communications.
