The word “Online” enters the Albanian language dictionary

On Tuesday, the Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language was published online, which contains around 125 thousand lexicographic units and is considered the most voluminous dictionary of the Albanian language to date.

The Great Dictionary of the Albanian Language, published by the Academy of Sciences of Albania, includes the word “online”, which has now officially entered the dictionary in its Albanianized form.

It is explained as: “ONLÁJN adj., comp. Using the internet. Online learning (meeting). Connected (chatted) online.”

According to the preface, the dictionary includes about 105 thousand words in separate entries, about 3 thousand 500 words “hidden” within meanings as nouns, adjectives and adverbs, as well as about 12 thousand 500 phraseological units. It also contains about 5 thousand terminological phrases, 1.200 abbreviations, about 250 new phonetically unassimilated terms, 1.650 unassimilated foreign expressions and about 250 thousand lexical meanings.

Based on the preface, this lexicographic work comes as a long-overdue publication and much sought after by users of the Albanian language.
