EU: Serbia’s obligations from dialogue with Kosovo do not change

The European Union has instructed the next Serbian government, which will emerge after the elections, that it expects constructive behavior in the dialogue for the normalization of relations with Kosovo, including the implementation of all agreements reached so far.

This was stated by an EU spokesperson, stating that the result of the recent elections in Serbia does not change the foundations or obligations of the EU-facilitated dialogue.

“The EU-facilitated dialogue does not depend on individual political leaders. All existing obligations remain valid, including the 2023 Agreement on the Road to Normalization and the Implementation Annex (Ohrid Agreement),” the spokesperson said.

This spokesperson said that at this moment it is too early to speculate about possible changes in Serbia’s position in the dialogue and their implications for this process.

“We expect Serbia to continue to engage constructively, respect existing obligations and contribute to the process towards normalization. The EU remains ready to engage with the new leadership to maintain the momentum of this process,” the spokesperson said.
